Gold Fever and how it all started for me! It was 1974
Here's some of the place I have prospected and hunted for treasure. It all started for me in California. I was stationed at Travis AFB and got the fever. Gold fever that is. My first outing produced nothing but fools gold. At work one of my co-workers ask what I had done over the weekend. As I told him one that was listening in chimed in and Al and I developed a long lasting relationship. Al was heavy into gold prospecting and took Mary and I on a educational journey into finding gold. Mary and I started with a pan, shovel, a couple of buckets and a home made sluice box(which I still have). We progressed to a underwater dredge, diving equipments and a Whites medal detector. Every weekend we were off to them there hills Most of the time we would spend all week discussing where we would go. More often than not we would meet up with Al and his son Chuck. We always found some gold. The most we ever found in one day was a little of a OZ. We spent many a weekend on the American and Yuba Rivers. One very special place with lots of gold was diamond creek. As the Air force would have it I go orders for Alaska and Al retired.
In Alaska besides working long hours I was really into hunting and fishing. We did mix in some medal detecting and some prospecting for gold. We were always prospecting even on our hunts. For gold had lots of luck near the Town of Hope just south of Anchorage.
